Migrants' Temporalities
The ‘Temporality’ is discussed through the migration routes and connections of the main locations like Train Stations, Crossing Points, Prefectures and Detention Centres involved with the border politics.
The routes and the time taken for border crossing by the people in transit who have faced threat / persecution in their home country involves risks or pushback to the detention centres / expulsion or even death. The main reason being this is that, the border on the map is just a line but in reality, it is a zone on each side of the line. The Archipelago involves various locations of interest as islands and the routes act as their connections. The map also indicates a worm-hole / time slippage involved in their migrations routes once they face a pushback. The map shows the proximity of these locations from the main border crossing
i.e. ‘The Death Pass’ (in case of Ventimiliga). As the name suggests, this location is prone to a lot of deaths of the migrants hence is considered as the central point of interest and all the locations as per their proximity placed around it. The islands show the kind of neighbourhood and the gaps in between them indicates the blur that exists in the routes taken by the migrants. The drawing discusses the various factors of vulnerability, the waiting time, the distance and the time taken to reach these locations.
