Our research investigates layers of pushback faced by people in-transit within the European Union by situating our practice in the hotspots of Ventimiglia and Bardonecchia, towns located in the Northern Italian region along the Franco-Italian border. These towns act as central points of transit by migrants aimed at crossing the border from Italy into France.
The set of environmental and non-environmental push backs that inhibit border crossing of migrants has produced a hostile spatial condition, evolving an ecology of resistance, solidarity, violence among its actors. Through our research we aim to engage in the logic of these conditions through the lens of thematics and research methodologies.
